JWM: Monumental Sculpture is a rag-tag body of sculpture that do not fit neatly within other series I have developed over the past five years or so. They are made from a combination of studio detritus, domestic objects, and things that have accumulated incidently. They are small, fragile, unassuming sculptures, which is seemingly at odds with the' title. There is however an underlying sense of classical and minimalist formalism, which gives them a kind of heroic quality – an everyday monumentality.
The series Monumental Sculpture is yet to be exhibited and I am reluctant to decontextualise the works by removing them from studio or my home.
